Homemade fruit roll ups

My kids love fruit snacks and fruit rolls ups. We go through a box in a matter of days. So when I found a recipe to make my own at home, I  had to try it.

All you need is a bag (8oz) of dried of fruit, whatever kind you want. I used mixed berries and then bananas.
And 1.5-2 cups of water.

Put the fruit and water in a large pot and let it simmer for about 30 minutes until the fruit is nice and soft.
Remove the fruit from any leftover water and put into a blender. I saved the excess water and I'm glad I did, I needed it to help blend the fruit.
Blend it all until very smooth.
Pour the fruit mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with foil that has been lightly greased.
Put into the oven at 250 for 25 minutes.
Without opening the oven, turn off the heat and leave the sheet in the oven for 8 hours.

When that is done, lay out some waxed paper, gently pull the fruit sheet off the foil and lay on the paper. Push into the paper then cut into strips. Roll them up and stick them in a Ziploc baggy. Done!

My kids loved them! It takes a while, yes, but they are so much cheaper than buying a box at $2 every couple days. Plus, they are 100% fruit and no added sugar or preservatives. You can't beat that!

Next time I might try some fresh fruit. It will be an experiment but it should work!
